Our Projects

Eco Education
Part of improving education for children in the area is introducing an environmental and sustainability arm to their syllabus. Located in the natural beauty of the Lowveld, this introduction is a natural one and learners in our programme have adopted the message of conservation wholeheartedly.

Eco Villages

When we become involved with a school, we first establish an Eco Village consisting of an Eco Garden, where children maintain several keyhole vegetable gardens, and an Eco Classroom, dedicated to environmental and sustainability education.

The Eco Classroom provides learners at the school with a bright and positive space that is conducive to learning. Grade 6 and 7 learners at our schools receive regular lessons in these classrooms on conservation and ecology.

In the Eco Gardens, learners in the programme acquire the skills to grow fresh produce. They take ownership of these gardens and work hard for successful crops each season to improve the level of nutrition for all learners in the school.

For many learners, the lunch they receive at school is the only meal they receive all day. Government subsidies to provide lunches is only enough to supply dry foods and the fresh produce from the garden supplement the school feeding scheme with nutritious vegetables.

Holiday Workshops

We host eco-based holiday workshop weeks for children whose parents work in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.

During each school holiday it is the highlight for around 500 children between the ages of 5 and 16 years.

By establishing a love for nature and conservation from as early an age as possible, we inspire these children and their families to adopt a way of life that protects their environment.

These workshops cover a range of conservational themes, such as:

  • How to be safe in the bush
  • Animals home ranges and territories
  • Animal behaviour
  • Recycling
  • Pollution
